Research regarding phenotypic expression and agronomic value of the Hera tomato cultivar at the Plant Genetic Resources Bank – for Vegetables, Floricultural, Aromatic and Medicinal Plants, Buzău, Romania

Abstract
The Plant Genetic Resources Bank – for Vegetables, Floricultural, Aromatic and Medicinal Plants in Buzău possesses an outstanding germplasm collection for Solanum lycopersicum species which is composed of over 2000 genotypes structured over various breeding stages.
The Hera tomato cultivar was approved and patented in 2018. This cultivar showed distinct phenotypic expression of long and red pepper shaped fruits, preserving the taste and aroma of the traditional tomatoes.
Starting in 2019, it was included in the conservative selection program and intensively evaluated regarding phenotypic expression and variability of the main characters, as well as its yield capacity and fruit quality.
The research was carried out both in greenhouses, over an area of 300 m2 and in the open field, over an area of 600 m2. A specific crop technology for undetermined growth tomatoes was applied.
During the vegetative period, biometrical and phenological measurements were carried out for 3 years of cultivation.
The cultivar is intended for fresh consumption and has a high yield potential.
Yields of 3.6 kg plant‑1 in the greenhouse and 2.4 kg plant‑1 in the open field were obtained.
Average fruit weights of 289 g (greenhouse conditions) and 268 g (in the open field) were recorded.
