Abstract
Freshly cut plants of Pelargonium graveolens L. and leaves taken from different locations on the plant were examined during the growing season using steam distillation.

Maximum essential oil content was found in young leaves.
For the whole plant, the highest concentration was found in summer and autumn.

The relative percentages of the major components in the oil were determined.
The contents of geraniol, citronellol, linalool and other components varied at different harvest dates and leaf locations.
Optimal harvest frequency and harvest height are discussed.
