SOIL AND PLANT FACTORS AFFECTING AVAILABILITY OF MINERAL NUTRIENTS

Nutrient supply of plants generally depends on both soil and plant factors.
Availability of the nutrients is the resultant of a complex of soil factors.
They interact with a group of plant properties which can be comprised under the term efficiency of uptake.
It is a commonplace that contact between a nutrient and the plant root is necessary before uptake is possible.
However, both availability and efficiency largely depend on the contact between nutrients and the root.

The aim of this paper is to give some quantitative information on the factors and mechanisms involved in availability of phosphate, potassium and nitrate.
