Abstract
An experiment to study the effect of summer pruning on yield and berry characters of Vitis vinifera var.
Perlette was conducted during the year 1983. The vines were pruned at 2 and 3 bud level above the uppermost bunch at pre-bloom and berry set stages.
In one case the axillary buds which resumed growth after pruning were pinched off whereas in another case the axillary shoots were allowed to grow.
Summer pruning slightly increase yield/vine.
The pruned vines exhibited considerable increase in bunch weight.
The effects on berry size and weight were however, negligible.
Pruning of actively growing vines did not exhibit significant effect on TSS and acidity percentages.
