Abstract
Cut tubers of the potato cultivar Patrones were planted in November of 1979 and 1980 at Shambat, Khartoum North.
During both periods they were treated with the herbicides eptam, treflan, linuron, linuron-oryzalin, monolinuron, sencor and patoran and the combinations of sencor with the others in comparison with check plots for the prupose of determining their effect on weed control, yield, storability, total sugars and protein content of tubers.
Marked differences were observed between treatments with regard to weight loss, sprouting, shrinkage, total sugars, and protein content after storage.
The highest percentage of weight loss and the lowest percentage of sprouting were found with the combination of sencor and eptam after prolonged storage (6 months). This same treatment also resulted in the highest percentage of total sugars for the same storage duration.
Protein content was markedly decreased by sencor herbicide after storage but further investigations have to be made in this regard.
