Abstract
Field experiments were conducted in 1978 and 1979 to evaluate fungicides for the control of late blight (Phytophthora infestans) in potatoes (Solanum tuberosum L.). They were carried out at Tigoni and Marindas in the medium and high altitude zones of Kenya respectively.

Ridomil 25 W P gave the best control resulting in higher tuber yield and quality as determined by dry matter content and crisp colour irrespective of the rates used.
Dithane M-45, trimastan, antracol, daconil 2787 and brestan 60 were effective in that order.
Whereas, ridomil 25 W P did not control Alternaria solani, all others gave reasonable control.
Brestan 60 a tin compound induced phytotoxicity particularly at Tigoni.
Besides excellent foliage control of P. infestans, ridomil treatment had no tuber blight.
Possibilities of extending the spray intervals was indicated where ridomil 25 W P was applied.
