FIELD INSPECTION OF BULBOUS PLANTS IN THE NETHERLANDS

Abstract
Because of the phytosanitary requirements of the importing countries, high standards must be set with respect to the quality and health of bulbs produced in The Netherlands.
This has led to a system of strict field and shed inspection, for which the growers have their own fully qualified Bulb Inspection Service working in close cooperation with the national Plant Protection Service.

Inspection in the field is necessary because various virus and eelworm diseases can only be identified in flowers or leaves.
In certain cases compulsory preventive treatments for planting-stocks are prescribed.
For some items, voluntary inspections of specially selected stocks are also carried out.
