RESINS AND POLYETHYLENE FILMS, AND THEIR USE IN AGRICULTURE

Abstract
For three or four years now, non-rigid plastic films have been increasingly used in the agricultures of the Mediterranean countries (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Lebanon, Turkey…) where they are expected to be used at best because of the excellent luminosity and the important lack of water.
But the evolution and the progress made in these countries and in the rest of Europe have not failed to puzzle the market-gardeners and the manufacturers.

The author surveys the main problem:

  • mechanical strength-durability;

  • special films for mulch;

  • special films for semi forcing, etc.

Thereby he shows that agricultural plastic films have become a plain material, no longer used as a substitute, and that this material affords a better way of life to the growers and give them every possibility to compete on the market.

We note with pleasure that the Mediterranean market-gardeners, whose techniques are less developed than in the Northern countries, are expecting as much from this new material as their colleagues of the other European countries.
