USE OF “FRIGO” PLANTS FOR THE CULTURE UNDER GLASS

Two kinds of strawberry plants may be planted in the temporary compartments before being grown under glass: plants from multiplication fields or from refrigerators, the latter indicated as "frigo plants" instead of "coldstored plants". From 1968 to 1971, comparative experiments have been tried with Gorella.
The following conclusions may be drawn:

• Good prospects of culture in greenhouse are offered for Gorella.

• The production is at least as important as with normal plants provided the "frigo" plants have been planted early.

• The "frigo" plants are stronger during the forcing-period and do not become dwarfed so easily during the harvest period.

• In large strawberry plant cultures, the planting-period may be extended through the use of "frigo" plants.
