RESULTS AFTER 4 YEARS OF EXPERIMENTS WITH P. E. AND P. V. C. TUNNELS

Two types of plastic-polyethylene and P. V. C. – may be used as cover for small tunnels.
From 1967 to 1970 comparative experiments have been tried.

These experiments give the following conclusions:

• The P. V. C. increases the temperature at ground level and the temperature of the atmosphere, hence giving the production a 3 days and a half advance on the production obtained under P. E. and extending the period of production;

• The production increases by 9%;

• The average price per kg, calculated on 4 years shows a surplus of 4 Fr with P. V. C.;

• Production and average price being superior, the gross profit was higher by 20%;

• The production compensated for the higher cost of P. V. C. leaving a reasonable profit.
