Abstract
The aim of the work was to evaluate the influence of eight different peach rootstocks upon the vegetative and yield behaviour of the cv "Maycrest" under standard peach environmental conditions in Campania.
The following rootstocks were compared GF 677, Harrow Blood, Mr.S 2/5, P.S. A5, P.S A6, P.S B2, P.S C14 and Peach seedling.
The following rootstocks were compared GF 677, Harrow Blood, Mr.S 2/5, P.S. A5, P.S A6, P.S B2, P.S C14 and Peach seedling.
The influence of the eight rootstocks was markedly different.
The yield efficiency was negatively influenced by the vegetative development of the rootstocks.
The best performance was observed in P.S A5, wich was found to have a medium growth of the canopy along with a good cumulated yield equal to that of the Peach seedling.
Among the most common rootstocks GF 677 showed a remarkable vigour of the scion and great yield per tree, but a low efficiency.
Differences were found also in the precocity index and in fruit size.
P.S A5 together with Harrow Blood have the highest number of fruits in the most prized class (A-3A). GF 677 showed a substantially negative influence on fruit size and on time of ripening.
