Abstract
This study was carried on in 1985–86 and 1989–89 in order to determine the relationships between frost resistance and carbohydrate, protein and lipid contents in buds of Cardinal, Dixired, Redhaven, J.H. Hale and H. Giant peach cultivars which are widely grown in Marmara Region of Turkey.
Samples of one year old twigs were collected at 20–25 cm length once a month periodically from November throughout March.
The samples were exposed to artificial frost tests at -15 and -20°C every month.
After keeping the samples in the test chamber for 4, 8, 16, 24 and 48 hours they were taken and planted in a greenhouse for bud survival tests.
On the other hand, the biochemical analysis, like carbohydrate (sugar and starch), protein and total fat in buds of the cultivars has been detected once a month during the experimental period.
The results are explained and discussed in this paper, especially for the aspect of frost resistance physiology of the cultivars.
