Abstract
A vineyard for full mechanization at different planting distances with and without shoot positioning was planted in 1986. To date 3 yields were harvested.
At a planting distance of 2 m between rows without shoot positioning the yield was significantly higher than in the plots with wider row spacing.
The non-positioned plots produced considerably more fruit than the positioned ones.
A topping hedging and ethephon growth inhibition system was developed to allow self suppórt of the canopy.
Planting distances of 1 m within the row was more efficient to date than a 1.5 m spacing.
Light penetration into the canopy of non positioned vines was significantly higher.
The differences in maturation between the treatments was relatively small though the pH in most of the dense planting was somewhat higher.
