Abstract
In the south of Brazil the use of greenhouses for vegetable crops is increasing.
The objective is to protect the plants against adverse climate and supply the market on early fall and late spring.
Plastic covered greenhouses, built with wood, are simple and low-cost structures.
EMBRAPA/CNPFT has investigated the effect of protected environment on vegetable crops since 1986. Some of the results obtained with tomatoes are presented in this paper.
