Abstract
The Southeast Anatolian Irrigation Project (GAP) will be completed in the beginning of 2000’s and in this region 1.6 million ha land will be irrigated within this project.
It is expected that vegetable production and meanwhile lettuce production will be increased and the region will have a new plant production pattern.

In this work best timing for lettuce production and effects of plastic tunnels were investigated by using several cos and head lettuce varieties.
Seeds were sown with 15 days intervals since mid-september.
Harvest time, head weight of varieties in open field and under high tunnels were examined according to sowing dates.

According to the results, plants which were sown in the second part of September which were transplanted in the end of October gave the best results.
Harvest in tunnels have started in March whereas harvest in open field were done 15 days later.
