THE EFFECT OF TEMPERATURE ON CHINESE CABBAGE TIPBURN AND ITS CONTROL BY CALCIUM NITRATE OR CITRIC ACID
During the second trial Chinese cabbage was sown at the middle of the July and harvested in October, and it was cultivated outdoors.
Two weeks before harvesting the half of the plants were kept under the greenhouse conditions.
In both experiments plants were grown in five litre pots.
The pots were filled with sphagnum peat adjusted with the lime chalk to pH 6.5 and fertilized with N, P, K, Mg and micro-mineral fertilizers.
In some cases spraying with AWA significantly reduced the tipburn symptoms, however it was observed that the tipburn was better reduced at the lower temperature when plants were grown outdoors.
It was also found that nitrate concentration decreased when plants were grown at low temperature.
At the third experiment carried out in 1993 plants were sprayed five times with 0.25% citric acid.
Decreasing of tipburn were observed after this treatment.
