Abstract
On white grapevine cv Erbaluce trained to pergola system, 18 vegetative-productive indices were applied to compare results from vines grafted on 101–14, 420 A, Rupestris du Lot, Kober 5bb, SO4 and from ownrooted vines.

Stock 420 A appeared the most efficient in stimulating fruit bearing, unlike du Lot.
Contrary to the expectations, SO4 seemed to induce poor vegetative vigour while Kober 5bb and 101–14, which proved to be the most well-balanced rootstocks, induced a quite similar influence on cv Erbaluce.
Ownrooted vines exhibited the highest vegetative vigour.

Among the vegetative-productive indices. ‘t.s.s. per meter of cane’ and ‘yield per meter of cane’ were the most efficient in discriminating productivity while poor vigour was well discriminated by ‘yield:pruning weight ratio’ and ‘t.s.s.:pruning weight ratio’.
