A short description of the situation of chrysanthemum year-round cultivation in relation to natural climate and photo-periodic conditions is given.
The Bundesforchungsanstalt für gartenbauliche Pflanzenzüchtung i.e.
Federal Research Institute for Horticultural Plantbreeding in Ahrensburg is working on testing and breeding varieties, specially "light-efficient"types, for winter production in northern Europe.
Part of this work is being executed in El Sauzal/Tenerife on the Canary Islands.
