Abstract
The aim of the investigation was to identify a suitable method for the characterization of phytoavailable zinc and to set up a critical value for phytoavailable zinc in compost-peat substrates.
The test plant was a Petunia hybrid.
The test plant was a Petunia hybrid.
The extraction with 0.1 M CaCl2 solution resulted in the closest correlation between extractable Zn and plant Zn content.
The critical level, where chlorosis of the plants occurred, was between 5.4 and 6.0 mg Zn (CaCl2 soluble) 1-1 substrate.
Thus, a tolerable level of 5.0 mg Zn (CaCl2 soluble) 1-1 substrate is suggested.
