Abstract
The objective of our research was to investigate the effect of P2O5 concentrations in fertilizer solution on the growth of and nutrient uptake by Oriental hybrid lily ‘Casa Blanca’. Tissue and soil analysis were also conducted to estimate the nutritive condition of inorganic elements resulting in decreased crop growth.
Dry weights of cut flowers in the 0, 0.5 and 1.0 mM P2O5 treatments were 16.1, 16.4 and 20.5 g, respectively.
The highest fresh weight was achieved in the 1.0 mM P2O5 treatment.
Tissue P2O5 contents, based on dry weight of whole above ground plant tissue in the 1.0 mM treatment, were 0.32% at bud emergence stage and 0.24% at flowering stage.
These results indicated that tissue P2O5 contents should be maintained at levels greater than 2% to produce high quality cut flowers.
Elevated P2O5 concentrations in the fertilizer solution increased root medium P2O5 concentration.
The treatments of 1.0, 1.25 and 3.0 mM phosphorus had 11.8, 11.4 and 65 mg L-1 of soil P2O5 concentrations, respectively.
Considering the change in fresh weight, maximum production seems to occur by keeping the root medium P2O5 concentration between the range of 11.8 and 65 mg L-1 at harvesting stage.
