PRELIMINARY RESULTS ON THE INFLUENCE OF SEEDLING AND CLONAL ROOTSTOCKS ON TREE GROWTH AND YIELD OF TWO PLUM CULTIVARS

Abstract
The performance of two plum seedling rootstocks: P. cerasifera Ehrh. var. divaricata Led. and Wangenheim Prune (P. domestica L.), and four clonal rootstocks: Jaspi, GF 655/2, Ishtara and Saint Julien A grafted with two plum cultivars Hanita and Dąbrowice Prune were investigated for tree growth, yield and fruit weight.
The field experiment was established in the Central part of Poland on a podzolic soil used for fruit tree crops for at least 50 years.
Trees were planted in the spring of 2000 and spaced in rows of 2.5 m and 4.25 m between rows.
The trees grafted on P. divaricata seedlings were used as a control. Wangenheim Prune seedlings and Saint Julien A rootstocks significantly reduced the tree growth of both plum cultivars.
Growth of plum trees on the other three rootstocks Jaspi, GF 655/2 and Isthara were similar to that of the control.
Yield was affected by the different rootstocks.
The Ishtara rootstocks were the most productive, but the highest yield efficiency was recorded on the Wangenheim Prune seedlings.
These rootstocks slightly reduced fruit weight.
