INFLUENCE OF VERMI-COMPOST ON GROWTH, FRUIT YIELD AND QUALITY OF GUAVA CV. SARDAR

An experiment on the influence of vermi-compost on variation in growth parameters, fruit characters, quality and yield of 5-yrs-old guava cv.
Sardar revealed that, there was no significant difference among the treatments for growth parameters.
All the fruit characters except equatorial diameter differed significantly.
Maximum polar diameter (7.55 mm), fruit weight (221.0 g), fruit volume (218.50 ml) and pulp thickness (2.33 cm) and its weight (143.0 g) were found in the plants that received 75 per cent recommended dose of fertilizers (RDF) + 10 kg vermicompost plant followed by the plants that received vermiculture at 50 worms plant^-1 and 100 per cent RDF in situ.
Except non-reducing sugars and acidity, all the quality parameters differed significantly.
TSS (10.83 °B), ascorbic acid (208.60 mg100 g^-1) and total sugars (8.62%) were higher in the treatment 75 per cent RDF + 10 kg vermicompost plant^-1 followed by the in situ application of vermiculture at 50 worms plant^-1 and 100 per cent RDF per plant.
The treatment 100 per cent RDF per plant recorded maximum reducing sugar (5.10%) followed by the treatments in situ vermiculture at 50 worms and 75 per cent RDF + 10 kg vermicompost.
The plants receiving 50 worms per plant recorded maximum yield (29.10 kg plant^-1 and 8.10 t ha^-1) followed by 75 per cent RDF + 10 kg vermicompost and 100 per cent RDF plant^-1. The treatments 75 per cent RDF + 10 kg vermicompost per plant, in situ vermiculture at 50 worms and 100 per cent RDF per plant were statistically at par with each other for all the parameters studied.
