EFFECT OF FOLIAR SPRAYING OF NITROGEN, PHOSPHORUS AND POTASSIUM ON YIELD AND FRUIT QUALITY OF GUAVA (PSIDIUM GUAJAVA L.)

The present investigation was carried out to study the effect of foliar spraying with different concentration of urea (0, 1 & 3%), monobasic calcium phosphate (0, 1 & 2%) and muriate of potash (0, 1 & 2%) individually and in combinations on yield and fruit quality of guava cv.
L-49. Treatments with higher concentrations of urea were found very effective in increasing the number of fruits, yield, individual fruit weight and the size of fruit.
The response of calcium phosphate and muriate of potash was higher when combined with higher doses of urea.
The maximum yield (48.09 kg plant^-1) was recorded by combined spraying of 3 per cent urea and 2 per cent each of calcium phosphate and muriate of potash, while spraying with 3 per cent urea in combination with calcium phosphate (2%) and muriate of potash (1%) showed the maximum individual fruit weight (157.1 g). The quality of fruits showed marked improvement by spraying with higher doses of muriate of potash alone or in combination with urea and calcium phosphate.
Combined spraying of urea (1%) calcium phosphate (2%) and muriate of potash (2%) urea (3%) along with calcium phosphate (1%) and muriate of potash (2%) showed maximum TSS (12.03 °B) and ascorbic acid (252.4 mg 100 g pulp^-1).
