RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN TRANSLOCATION OF 1,2-14C-(2-CHLOROETHYL) PHOSPHONIC ACID AND PETIOLE ABSCISSION IN COLEUS PLANTS

Abstract
Ethephon moves down the petiole into the direction of the abscission zone.
Using peticle segments it was shown that movement is partly due to the presence of a waterfilm layer around the petiole.
Translocation of 14C-ethylene could not be observed.
The ethephon-induced petiole abscission appeared to be highly age-dependent.
