Abstract
Long-term annual applications of growth retardants on young apple trees do not provide a means of permanent control of growth.
Increase of crop yield is usually limited to the first years and is associated with decreased fruit size.

In older orchards Alar can be used late in the season to improve fruit colour and prolong harvesting period, without seriously affecting fruit size.
