Abstract
The effects of three concentrations of ethephon, i.e. 0, 125 and 250 mg/l applied at 1, 2, 3 and 4 weeks before estimated harvest were studied on the "Sugarloaf" pineapple.
Ethephon significantly hastened fruit maturity and shortened the harvest period.

Time of application influenced fruit maturity but had no effect on harvest period.
Interaction between time of application and ethephon concentration influenced both fruit maturity and harvest period.
Fruit size, yield, pH, acidity, total soluble solids and TSS/acidity ratio were not influenced by ethephon concentration, time of application and their interaction.
