Abstract
Work for two seasons on tomatoes using 4 levels of N and 4 in-row spacings has revealed that both N application and closer spacing increased total yields significantly.
Mean yields for 0, 45, 90 and 180 kg N/ha were 43.4, 49.9, 48.8 and 45.1 T/ha respectively.

While N application seemed to decrease sunscalding incidence, it did not affect fruit quality.
Mean total yields for the population densities of 12000, 16400, 21600 and 42000 plants/ha were 42.4, 44.1, 59.6 and 60.9 T/ha respectively.

Closer spacing decreased cracking and sunscalding incidence, but had no effect on quality.
No interaction was detected between N application and plant spacing.
