Abstract
A study on the optimum capsule-age and suitable medium for seed germination of Phalaenopsis Silky Moon was performed.
Seeds from 2- to 4-month-old capsules were cultured on stationary-liquid and solidified Murashige and Skoog (MS), Vacin and Went (VW), and Hyponex (H) medium including modification of the three media.
It was found that seeds from a 3-month-old capsule provided the highest percentage of germination at 98.7% on modified stationary-liquid Hyponex medium supplemented with 2 g/L peptone, 100 g/L potato juice and 1 g/L activated charcoal.
However, seeds from a 4-month-old capsule showed the highest numbers of plantlets on the same medium.
