Abstract
The Hungarian sweet and sour cherry breeding program began in 1950, and has released 12 sweet and 9 sour cherry varieties.
The sweet cherry varieties released in the last 10 years include: Alex (1997), Kavics (1999), Vera (2002), Rita (2004), Sándor (2004), Petrus (2004), Aida (2006), Carmen (2006), Paulus (2008) and Annus (Anita) (2010). During this time, there has also been one sour cherry released: Piramis (2004), and there is one sour cherry candidate variety: Dukát.
