Abstract
Analysis on the situation and tendency of pomegranate research in the world based on bibliometrics was performed for providing information to pomegranate researchers and decision makers.
The published pomegranate literature was analyzed in the world during 2001 and 2012 based on the Web of Science database, such as the countries, research institutes, core authors, key journals and the distribution of disciplines, etc.
A total of 1360 pomegranate literatures were identified in the world.
The literature types, annual literature number, top 20 countries, research institutes, core authors, key journals and disciplines were retrieved in the world.
The literature types of pomegranate research were mainly in article.
The output of pomegranate literature increased year by year in the world.
The number of pomegranate literature in 2012 was 31 times as that in 2001. The top productive countries were the United States, India, Iran, Turkey and Spain, and China was seventh.
The top institutions with high academic achievement were the University of California Los Angeles, the University of Tehran, the University of Wisconsin, Technion Israel Institute of Technology and the University Miguel Hernandez, and China Agricultural University was 18th.
The authors with high academic achievement were mainly from America and Israel.
Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, Food Chemistry, Scientia Horticulturae, Journal of Food Science and Journal of Medicinal Food were the most active journals in this field.
The main disciplines of pomegranate literature were Food Science Technology, Chemistry, Agriculture, Pharmacology Pharmacy and Nutrition Dietetics.
The research hotspots of pomegranate were focused on its function in nutrition and medical health to human and related metabolic mechanism.
