Abstract
Physical and chemical characteristics of fruits of two fig cultivars (Ficus carica L.) namely, Baiodhi and Hammori, grown in two different regions of Libya (Ben Gashir and Tarhona) were studied.
Ten fruits of each cultivar were randomly picked from each cultivar and were replicated five times in a complete randomized block design (CRBD). Averages of fruit weight and fruit size were determined.
The total soluble solids (TSS) were estimated using hand refractometer.
Fruits were analyzed for total acidity percentage, reduced and total sugars.
Data were statistically analyzed.
Results showed that fruits of Hammori were significantly larger and heavier than that of Baiodhi in both locations.
Cultivars grown in Ben Gashir region contained both higher reduced sugars and total sugars than those grown in Tarhona region.
Total acidity percentage was significantly higher in Baiodhi grown in Tarhona than that grown in Ben Gashir, while it was not different in Hammori in both reagons.
Other parameters were also discussed.
