Abstract
Pomegranate is an excellent small odd fruit which has developed quickly in recent years in our country, and has high economic, nutritional, medicinal and ornamental value.
It has been cultivated more than 2100 years up to now.
Especially the soft seed pomegranate is loved by consumers for the big fruit, sweet to juicy, soft seed kernel and good quality.
Its good economic characters were considered to be the treasures of pomegranate fruit, and it has big development potential.
But most of new soft seed traits cultivars were acquired through bud mutation, radiation, hybrid breeding and seed selection method.
In recent years, with the rapid development of molecular biology, DNA molecular markers and gene cloning have been widely applied in the pomegranate germplasm resources and breeding of elite cultivars, so in this article, the main cultivar at present, tissue culture and molecular biology research of the soft seed characteristic are reviewed, and the existing problems are analyzed.
At the end, the future research direction for the soft seed pomegranate is put forward, which provides reference for the sustainable development of the soft seed pomegranate industry.
