Abstract
Taxus chinensis var. mairei, a species endemic to China, is a valuable tree and an important forest resource.
The protection and utilization of Taxus chinensis var. mairei is a priority and demands close attention.
The geographic distribution pattern and the characteristics of the ecological zones of Taxus chinensis var. mairei were investigated in this study with the goal of providing information for the cultivation and conservation of Taxus chinensis var. mairei. Principal component analysis and clustering analysis methods were used.
The distribution of Taxus chinensis var. mairei includes the regions situated from north latitude 24°05′ to 36°13′, east longitude 98°04′ to 121°49′, encompassing 199 counties of 17 provinces in China.
The vertical distribution ranges from 70 to 2100 m above sea level.
The altitude of the distribution regions is higher in the west and lower in the east. Taxus chinensis var. mairei was identified as a warm and moist-loving species.
The average heat, humidity, sunshine, and low temperature factors were found to be the dominant factors affecting its distribution.
The distribution zones of Taxus chinensis var. mairei were classified into four ecological zones, and the hydrothermal indexes of the optimal zones were analyzed.
