Abstract
Clarkia is a genus of over 40 species within the flowering plant family Onagraceae. Almost all are native to western North America. Clarkia has been partially commercialized on the flower market as pot-plants or cut flowers in the US; however, it has not been sold in some states within the US or in other countries. Clarkia has a high potential for the flower market.
For many ornamental plants, the commercial pot-plants and cut flowers of today were not cultivated commercially until several years ago.
Since the ornamental plant industry is characterized by its great diversity, there are more ornamental species cultivated today than all edible crops.
In some ways the introduction of new ornamental crops is easier than agricultural and horticultural crops.
This paper reviews the growing history of wildflower Clarkia spp. in the enabling environment.
A proposal with regard to growing Clarkia plants is given.
