Abstract
The bad physical properties of black peat of West France are usually improved by adding undecomposed sphagnum peat.
In tests laboratories have been studied the effect of two other products : fine composted bark and vermiculite.

For potting substrates, vermiculite has good effects, mainly if this product is not too fine.

Fine composted bark has good effects only if it is added a great quantity of this product (at least 1 volume of fine composted bark for 1 volume of black peat).
