Abstract
Fusarium wilt diseases are currently the most important pathological problem in soilless cultures.
Infestations occur in various ways depending on the culture system utilized.

A method of measuring the receptivity of culture substrates to fusarium wilts has been developed.
It is effective over a wide range of pathogen populations and with a variety of substrates of different composition.
The level of receptivity of substrates can be altered by adding a microbiological buffer.
For example, adding a very small quantity of soil naturally suppressive to fusarium wilts confers suppressiveness to certain peats.

Studies of this method of biological control of fusarium wilts are opening up promising perspectives in soilless culture.
