Abstract
Besides the existing growing systems like nutrient film technique and rockwool growing a new growing system has been developed as an intermediate form between both mentioned systems, it will be called the "stationary water" growing system.

It is built up out of a rigid trough, lying on a horizontal surface in which a layer of water stands and in which a rockwool block is placed.
The plants are placed upon the rockwool block.
Watering of the system takes place by raising the layer of water in the troughs either by trickle irrigation or in another way.

Research at IMAG (Institute of Agricultural Engineering) in Wageningen has been done to find other, simpler, methods of watering usable for Dutch circumstances.
During two successive crops, values of conductivity, pH and oxygen concentration have been measured at different locations in the troughs with the alternative watering methods.
