Abstract
Being careful, it is possible to use maritime pine bark as substrate for vegetable crop : the part of bark inferior to 2 mm is the most useful for insuring water retention ; the portion from 2 to 20 mm allows aeration ; pure bark may be used but a very precise programmation system of irrigation is required, otherwise it is better to add peat ; phytotoxicities due to terpenic composites will be avoided by using old barks ; a magnesian lime neutralization must be realized with 3 kg/m3 at least ; a complete fertilization must be brought with special attention to calcium and iron.
