Aspects regarding the productivity and canopy vegetative growth of some sour cherry genotypes existing in the germplasm fund of northeastern Romania

Abstract
Sour cherries are a very important fruit crop with many health benefits, which has allowed their commercial importance to increase, especially in the temperate zone.
The studies were performed for three consecutive years (2020-2022) using sour cherry (Prunus cerasus L.) cultivars existing in the Romanian sour cherry germplasm collection from Research Station for Fruit Growing (RSFG) Iaşi, Romania.
The study concerned 15 sour cherry genotypes: ‘Cigany Meggy’, ‘Ilva’, ‘Oblacinska’, ‘Pandy 14’, ‘Richmorency’, ‘Crisana 11/6’, ‘Erdy Bötermo’, ‘Favorit’, ‘De Botoșani’, ‘Mocănești 16’, ‘Amarelle Royal’, ‘Băneasa’, ‘Early Richmond’, ‘Royal Duke’ and ‘Japonica’. The conduct of this study represents the climatic characterization of the area and its influence on the phenological stages of fruiting (from the beginning of flowering, code 61 BBCH, to the ripening of the fruits, code 89 BBCH). For this purpose, the number of days, sum of active temperature (Σt°a) and the light intensity, physiological indices of stomatal conductance (gs) and relative chlorophyll content of the leaves, productivity (quantity of fruits) and properties of the fruits obtained (physical and biochemical characteristics) were determined.
The Duncan’s test (p≤0.05) and the Pearson correlation coefficient were used for statistical analysis.
The descriptors showed a high degree of variability due to the climatic conditions of the years studied, which varied from 10.11 to 12.10°C, average annual temperature, and total precipitation from 440 to 563 mm, resulting in significant statistical differences between the results obtained.
The results indicate that the characterized sour cherry genotype collection has a high potential for specific breeding objectives.
