‘Miris’ – new cherry cultivar created at RSFG, Iasi, Romania

Abstract
The aim of this paper is to improve the local cherry assortment with cultivars that can adapt well and have ecological plasticity, superior biological potential, they are productive, with quality fruits and traits superior to the existing cultivars.
On the fresh fruits market, the preferred cultivars are the “bigarreau” type, with shiny red color, resistance to cracking, transport and temporary warehousing and weight above 7.0 g.
Analyzing the main phenological stages in the two cultivars (‘Miris’ and ‘Van’) it was noticed that the new cherry cultivar ‘Miris’ was average both in beginning of bloom and fruits maturation.
In terms of average production over four years (2018-2021), statistically, it was noticed that cultivar ‘Miris’ (25.8 kg tree‑1) recorded non-significant positive production differences in comparison to the control cultivar ‘Van’ (23.1 kg tree‑1). In terms of fruits weight and equatorial diameter, ‘Miris’ (8.1 g and 25,4 mm) recorded positive differences (g) and distinct significant positive differences (mm) in comparison with ‘Van’ (7.4 g and 24.3 mm). The SDS content values were between 17.4 (‘Van’) and 17.9% (‘Miris’), the SDS/TA ratio between 35.43 and 36.55% and the total polyphenols content between 674.12 (‘Miris’) and 676.71 mg GAE 100 mL‑1 fresh juice (‘Van’).
