Abstract
The current work present a comparative study on the Vitis vinifera L., cultivar ‘Tamaioasa Romaneasca’ (TR), grafted on rootstock SO 4, in the 12th year of culture in 1971 and also in 2022, regarding the complex influence that the soil, through its physical, mechanical and chemical properties, exerts on the root system development and implicitly on the grape production and quality.
The researches were carried out at the Didactic Station for Research and Development for Viticulture and Fruit Growing Pietroasa-Istrita, located in the center of the Dealul Mare vineyard region (Romania). The evolution on the physical and chemical properties of two types of soil was followed: Calcaric Chernozem (CC) and Rendzina (R) (based on the World Reference Base for Soil Resources classification) as well as their influence on the wine grape harvest.
The following were analyzed: physical properties such as bulk density (BD), total porosity (TP), compaction degree (CD) and chemical properties: pH, humus, NPK content.
Also, the distribution of the root system was determined by calculating of the root-section area (RSA), the frequency of roots (FR) and their influence on the production (kg vine‑1) (P) and the quality of the grapes: sugar content, acidity.
The results of comparative research between 1971 and 2022 on Calcaric Chernozem and Rendzina soils demonstrated the maintenance of the distribution of the root system of the vine, as follows: the root system is located toward the surface of the soil profile in the case of Calcaric Chernozem and more developed in depth in the case of Rendzina.
