Abstract
Breeding of bulbous crops is challenging because of the crop specific characteristics in most important geophytes like tulip and lily that need more time and effort to deal with.
In this overview we will go into some of the new developments and research in the Netherlands in attempting to overcome or deal with such problems in generation time, reproduction, genome size and phenotyping for disease resistance.
The focus will be on genetic and genomics aspects of these bulb specific characteristics rather than recent developments into bulb production.
