Abstract
The floriculture industry is experiencing substantial growth in production and trade rates, with bulbous and perennial flowers playing a vital role in the ornamental flower market.
Conventional cultivation of ornamental geophytes is, however, hindered by challenges such as long juvenile period, phytopathological and physiological storage organ deterioration, and limited multiplication rates.
In addition, many ornamental geophytes are threatened by over-collection due to their attractive properties and medicinal value.
To overcome these limitations, researchers have turned their attention toward the micropropagation.
This method offers significant advantages for conservation of endangered species or by speeding up the vegetative propagation of healthy plant material and the introduction of newly bred cultivars.
In this review, we will provide some case studies aimed to highlight the use of micropropagation for the valorisation of some members of the Ranunculaceae family, geophytes well known for their ornamental and medicinal uses.
