Abstract
The area distribution of vegetable crops among altitudes is used to conclude ecological zones.
For the island of Java this approach resulted in the distinction of lowland (0 – 200m a.s.l.), medium land (200 – 700 m a.s.l.) and highland (700 m a.s.l. up).
For the island of Java this approach resulted in the distinction of lowland (0 – 200m a.s.l.), medium land (200 – 700 m a.s.l.) and highland (700 m a.s.l. up).
Within these zones, the distribution pattern of the different vegetables appears to depend on the distance to big cities.
On the basis of these two patterns, Java was divided in 23 vegetable production regions: 16 in lowland and 7. in highland.
The division concerned offers good starting points for the selection of research areas, for the design of location research and for the preparation and evaluation of government regulations, infrastructural works, etc.
