Abstract
The paper discusses the experience and achievements of the Franco Tanzanian Horticulture Development Project (FTHDP) based at Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA), Morogoro, Tanzania.
The aim of the project is to link research, training and development in the field of horticulture.
FTHDP activities include outreach research and extension programmes which follow the Farming Systems Approach.
University researchers as well as students actively participated to the diagnosis of Farming systems that led to a better understanding of farmer constraints and strategies towards development.
At present the FTHDP is currently looking into the possibility of initiating a horticulture development programme in Mgeta area.
This programme will be an original experience of bringing together the university and the concerned agricultural development institutions to work hand in hand for the benefit of the farmers.
