Abstract
Sugar industry development in Ethiopia is concerned with the development of three sugar factories and three confectionery plants and the contributions it has made to the national economy particularly during 1987/88 period.
These contributions are concerned with (1) Production and consumption of sugar (2) income generation, (3) employment creation, (4) revenue contribution (5) foreign exchange earnings and savings, (6) electric power contribution, (7) skill and know how development, (8) capital formation, (9) agriculture and other industries development, (10) urbanization and (11) marketing development benefits.

The paper is divided into four parts: Introduction, Brief Historical Development of Sugar Industry in Ethiopia, Economic Impact of Sugar Industry and Conclusion.
