Abstract
Ethiopia is basically an agricultural country, with the major part of its industry being based on agriculture.
The industrial section that process fruits and vegetable dates back to the 1940s.
But it is not yet fully developed, mainly due to market problem raw material problem and high cost of production.
The total quantity of fruit and vegetables processed per year in the last three years did not exceed 19 000 tons while its imports are over 21 000 tons.
Grapes and tomato processing is limited due to limited agricultural production while other fruits and vegetable processing is limited due to lack of market and high cost of packing materials.
