NEW HOPE FOR THE YELLOW PASSION FRUIT

The longevity of the yellow passion fruit has been reduced due to the premature death of the plants which may occur at any stage of the plant development ranging from 3 months to 3 years of age.
In most cases the exact cause of death has not been clarified yet.
Since 1977 we have observed the behavior of several different species, by using a contamined planting bed (*). These observations allowed us to come to the following conclusions about the susceptibility of different Passiflora species:

Susceptible to dieback: P. serrato digitata; P. coccinea; P. cincinatti; P. incarnata.

Tolerant to dieback: P. caerulea; P. macrocarpa; P. alata.

Resistant to dieback: P. giberti.

Presently, we have started taking records on the yield and development of yellow passion fruit grafted onto these different species.
