Abstract
Effect of precursor and potassium nitrate on the growth of Polygonum tinctorium and indirubin formation was investigated using shake flasks and air-lift bioreactors.
Cell growth was impaired by precursor addition at the level higher than 2 mM indole.
Indirubin formation increased when 20 mM of indole was added at the mid-point of exponential phase of cells.
In an air-lift bioreactor using nitrate depleted media fed-batch culture increased indirubin production by 40%, compared with the control.
