Abstract
International apple and pear markets show-changing trends, being cultivar diversification a must.
Nowadays pear demands emphasize Abate Fetel, Conference, Beurre Bosc and other varieties with russeting, as well as red and Asian pears.
Due to their particular traits, and the lack information on local behavior, a non-traditional pear cultivar evaluation was held, with the following goals: quality criteria, first acceptable harvest date determination, and storage information.
Results on controlled atmosphere (CA) and regular storage for the 1994, 95 and 96 seasons are discussed, for the Abate Fetel, Beurre Bosc, Red Bartlett, Hosui, Nijisseiki and Shinseiki cultivars.
